Preparation for this sacrament includes adult, child(ren), and intergenerational sessions.

Preparation Session Beginning in November.

Preparation for First Penance includes sessions for adults, children and families together. Parents of children who are preparing for First Penance are invited to experience with their child the gifts of joy, peace, forgiveness, and new life that God offers through Jesus Christ in this sacrament.

Penance preparation is part of preparation for First Eucharist, but parents are welcome to delay celebration of the sacrament to a time when they believe it is most appropriate for the child and the religious lifestyle of their family. Most often, celebration of the sacrament is especially suited for children around the age of 9 or in 4th grade. However, parents may elect to prepare a child at an earlier or later age.

A child should not be 'sent' to Penance. Faithfulness to the sacrament needs to come from the parent's practice and belief.
