Playground Upgrade

Late this summer, parents concerned about the safety of our playground worked to provide improved fencing and ground cover.   With assistance and support from Home Depot, SPA provided the funds needed to upgrade our playground.

Through research, a rubber chip material, made from old tires, was chosen for the ground cover. The chips are very safe. There are no gases or poisons, it's non-toxic and doesn't produce toxic leachate. Information from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Dept of Natural Resources were also checked.

From these photos you can see installing the chips was no easy task.   Leveling the ground, laying a foundation and then spreading pounds of this rubber material took hours.
