 Cash for Trash
Cash for Trash is a combination of many corporate-sponsored programs that give our school money when we turn in items that would have otherwise gone in the trash.
What do these companies do with the trash?
They either recycle it or refurbish and reuse the item. Recycling is another benefit from these programs.
What kind of trash is accepted?
There are many specific items that can bring in cash. Generally, check your trash for the items below. Click on each link to view specific product lists and learn more about the programs.
When and where is trash accepted?
Trash is accepted throughout the year and contests at school are held at least once a year to encourage collection and raise awareness. There are many places you can place your trash.
- Send it to school to be deposited in the blue garbage can at on first floor.
- Drop it in the collection bin at the outside entrance to Pates Hall. (This is a good option for large quantities of trash such as multiple ink cartridges you've retrieved from work.)
- Drop them in the blue containers just inside the doors downstairs going into Pates Hall, or upstairs going into church.
Where does the money go?
The money has been used to buy a variety of things over the years. For example: new gym equipment, playground equipment, office supplies, a U.S. flag and stand, and has been put towards helping with the technology upgrades. Over the years we have received $10,000 just from General Mills alone. Each year we raise approximately $5,000 through these programs.
Who can I contact if I want to help with these programs?
Contact a member of SPA. There are volunteer opportunities in running contests, keeping up to date on the program details, and preparing and packaging items for shipping.
