OLP Characteristics

1. + We are a neighborhood parish.   33.8% of us live within 5 minute driving distance of OLP.   80% of OLP parishioners live in the area bound by 35W (west), Hiawatha (east), 38th (north), and 62 (south).
   
2. + Our neighborhood is stable.    Neighborhood population increase in five years will be only .72%.   This slight increase is projected to be in Black, Hispanic and Asian population, and in that order.
   
3. + Our neighborhood has a balance of ages.   Our neighborhood average age is 37.97 years and is projected to be 40.66 years in 2011.   This is a 4.6% rise in median age.
   
4. / The Catholic density in our neighborhood is low.   12.5%.   The Minnesota average Catholic population is over 29%.   Our density is only 12.5%.   There are generally less Catholics east of Cedar Ave. and north of Minnehaha Parkway than there are west of Cedar and south of the Parkway.  
   
5. - The population density of children is stable-toward-decreasing.   The youth population will dip slightly by 2011 (-.21% under 5, -1.73% under 18; the over 65 population will rise slightly (.86%).  
   
6. / The highways on three sides are major physical and psychological barriers for us. Cedar and the lakes are not.   On the north, OLP is considerably more densely present south of Minnehaha Pkwy than north of it.  
   
7. / Minnehaha Parkway is a psychological and physical boundary of some note on the north.
   
8. + We are an above average income parish.   Our median household gross income is $71,855.07.   Only 27.7% of our households have a median income below $61,000, the state figure.   The median income in Minneapolis is $53,695, in St. Paul $54,396.   The median household income in the neighborhood is projected to increase 21.91% from $69,116 (2006) to $84,260 (2011).   The median home value is projected to rise 19.17% from $220,176 (2006) to $262,384 (2011).
   
9. + The committed OLP parishioners are strongly committed.   Only 54.3% of our OLP households participate in Sunday stewardship, but they offer 1.6% of their yearly gross in stewardship.
   
10. + Families with children in our school ministry are strongly committed to OLP.   87% of families who have children in our school ministry participate in Sunday stewardship and offer OLP 1.3% of their gross income.
    
11. + Parishioners are heavily concentrated in certain areas of the parish neighborhood, which suggests that neighbors influence neighbors regarding membership.
    
12. + People in the neighborhood have a range of choices for choosing their parish.   There are ten parishes within less than a ten minute drive from OLP.  
    
13. / The distribution of the families with children in the school ministry parallels the distribution of parish families as a whole.
    
14. -/+ There are untapped pockets of Catholics living in the neighborhood not going to any parish.
    
15. - We have only 1/4 of our membership attending Eucharist on any given Sunday.
